bedtime turkey

about a month or so ago, we switched Gabbi to her first big girl bed - it's a cute little plastic cottage twin bed that i found off craigslist. love craigslist. she never once tried to get out. she'd just sit in the corner and yell "out!" until someone came to get her. until last night at bedtime. she's a turkey. not a peep - stealth as a mouse - didn't even attempt to have someone come get her, she just all of a sudden thought it'd be cute, funny, or just didn't care - or all of the above, that she's sneak out of bed and start to play oh so quietly. first, all i heard was a door clicking open and shut. I thought at first it was Gavin, however, it seemed strange. I checked on him and he was in bed, awake, but quiet. So I walked over to Gabbi's door, and there she is, standing in the door, opening and closing it. repeat. I say "Gabbi, no!" and she spins around and with the swooshing sound of her little diaper she darts back to up, up and over and sprawls out as flat as can be, tummy down on her "deedee" and doesn't move. lays perfectly still. if it weren't dark, i'd swear she's smiling. I now decided I'd better put the baby gate up in front of her door. She's at the top of the stairs. I go back to bed unsure of what to expect next. all of a sudden, i hear more clicking. I go back, and there she is AGAIN, door open & close. "Gabbi - you get back in bed!" she turns and runs, swish swish, up and over and lays flat again. i swear she giggled. but then lays perfectly still and quiet. I'm sure she's thinking "if i pretend I'm sleeping, she'll go away." she's only 20 mos old! we're so in for it with this one. So, after some scolding to a very still baby that's clearly ignoring me, I head back to bed. PS i'm soooo tired, getting a head cold, and just really would like to lay down. but I can't be mad because of how cute she is. One more time... this time, i hear a muffle on the baby monitor - yes, all this time I've had the baby monitor in her room and I still cannot hear her get out of bed!!! Stealth! muffle sound, a could clicking and knocking sounds - that girl is playing with her jewelry chest on the floor!!! Again, I go back in and it's the same again. more running, more laying flat and still. but apparently this time she listened because she never got out of bed again, or at least I did not hear it. I totally expected to find her asleep on her floor this morning, however, she was completely zonked out in her bed. apparently exhausted from the late bedtime and playing.
